Rummy card game is the favourite game for many card game enthusiasts in India. It is a simple card game where 13 cards are distributed to every player and they have to arrange them in sequences and or sets. The first player to arrange the 13 cards in this manner gets to win the game. The game which was traditionally played within family circles is now accessible to millions of players via online platforms. Despite moving online, the rummy rules remain the same except for a number of players being able to access the table. Unlike offline rummy where you have to wait for your opponents for quite a long time, in online rummy, you can always find someone at the table.   1. How many decks of cards are used?

A minimum of 2 standard decks of cards are used in a rummy game

  1. How does the game start?

A toss decides which player gets to make the first move. A random card is dealt to all the players, and the player with the highest card gets to make the first move.

  1. What is a Wild Joker?

A wild joker is a random card which can be used as a substitute for a missing card in a sequence or a set just like the printed joker. For example, if the random card drawn out turns out to be 6 of spades, then 6 belonging to the rest of the suits are also considered the wild jokers.

  1. What are Sequences and their types?

A sequence is a group of three or more consecutive cards belonging to the same suit. For a successful declaration, you would need two sequences at least out of which one must be a pure sequence.

There are two types of Sequences

  • Pure Sequence

A pure sequence is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit without the usage of a joker.  3♥, 4♥, 5♥ is an examples of pure sequence

  • Impure sequence

Any sequence melded with the usage of a joker card is called an impure sequence. Eg: 10♥, J♣, PJ is an example of pure sequence.

6. What are the common rummy tips?

  • Work on making a pure sequence as it is the lifeline of a rummy game
  • Discard high-value cards at the beginning as they may prove to be a burden
  • Keep observing your opponents’ moves as it could give you an idea about the melds they are making. Throw a few cards to confirm it.

7.  What are the maximum points in Rummy?

The maximum number of points in a rummy game is 80. Even if your score is above 80, it would remain 80
